Whats the best way to sharpen concaved blades. Bench stones don't seem to work well, unless I'm doing something wrong, do you have to use sharpening rods?

What I believe you are referring to is a "re-curved" blade.

Generally you will need a hone that has a smaller diameter of curvature than your blade has. Rods would be one solution, DMT makes a cone shaped set of hones, and several other manufacturers make triangular shaped hones for addressing serrations such as the Spyderco Sharpmaker.

There are numerous solutions, perhaps the least expensive but still effective solution I have used is a couple pieces of wet/dry sandpaper wrapped around a cardboard tube I found in a recycling bin.

I think the simplest method for the recurved section is some wet/dry sandpaper, wrapped around a cylinder. Can use a dowel, broom handle, section of pipe, etc. Use an edge-trailing stroke, as with stropping.

I use the rods from a Lansky Turnbox. Also, in the field, I use a Lansky mini dogbone Spyder sharpener.
