As some of you may know, the sword and machete blades I usually make are a lot like a stick. They act like a stick with a bit of a bow, and an edge. However, there are many folks out there that like blades to be more curvy than that, and it can be done to some degree despite the limitations of forging ti alloy bar stock.
This machete-type blade is an attempt to match up to a custom design, and as the shaping went on the design morphed a bit into a sleek and round-bellied whacker. The best feature of this blade is the fine nonlinear distal taper, starting at a about 3/16" at the grip and tapering down to a very thin point. It's effortless to move it quicker than the eye can follow. It's springy, and with some effort it can be flexed by hand into an arc to 90 degrees (or more) and will return true, bit it's pretty stiff.
Blade length is about 21", with a grip/tang of around 6" for a total of 27" oal.
The whole package with sheath is 1 lb 7.6 oz, and the machete itself weighs 12.6 oz. It's thin, with a slightly convex bevel from spine to edge.
The grip wrap is a strip of elkskin, from the same hide as the leather sheath made by Ms. Øye.
To a stick-blade maker it's a strange beast, I'd say, but it should do a good job. In reality it looks more gray than the white color of the photos. Sorry I don't have one of those fancy smart phones and ain't gonna get one due to paranoia and it would get smashed on accident within a week anyway, but someday soon I'll crank out a sword that'll get sent to Coop or someone for some detailed pics for you guys.
Thanks for looking!
