I have never been more interested in getting a custom buck 110 direct from Buck.:D

I really like the Elk Horn and I have a few questions:

1) Do they do a good job at matching the handle covers to each other?

2) Should I expect smooth horn or gnarly popcorn horn? If I contacted them, would they be able to oblige my preference?

Ultimately, I just want both sides to match each other relatively well.

Thanks in advance for your help! :)

PS- Nickel silver seems like the obvious choice, but what about tarnished brass? I was thinking brass might look good with elk after a little handling and use.

Oh! and like always, pictures are welcome!!!:D

Gov. Yes, they do match the handle slabs . If you call them you can tell them exactly what you want . They will try . There are guys here that have some 'impressive' antler handled knife collections . Try looking in the 'Sunday morning picture show thread and see if any are in that which you may like . Good hunting . DM

Regarding the brass/antler combo; I have an older special run Elk Vanguard with brass and it looks good. Plus, you can always polish it up and bring it back to life if you like. On the other hand, nickel always looks good too. :)

Thanks for the quick responses!

I was just looking into the sunday thread and there were some great looking knives in it.

The Brass and Elk is a great looking combo, Gov. I have never had a problem with matching scales from the Custom Shoppe, be they Sambar, Elk, Horn, or otherwise. As David mentioned, a phone call wouldn't hurt, but I have found the Custom Shoppe to be at the top of their game.

Do contact them and tell them your likes and dislikes.

They want you to be a happy customer and you are spending a good chunk of money.

If it's a user, brass might be better. Nickel does scratch up rapidly and easily.

My Gnarly Elk. I called and talked to Liz and asked for it to be barky. Nice knife...very pleased.
