Does the Rivets make the handle slabs more secure, I want to get one with the Water Buffalo handle, I think it will look better with out the rivets but again do they make the handle slabs more secure to the knife? Thanks for any info!

Nope.

Rivets don't make a bit of difference.

Buy with confidence.

But.......I happen to think that a 110 with Black Buff and a mirror polished blade and nickel rivets and bolsters looks incredibly beautiful.

:)

Rick, Welcome. First off I think you have very good taste as thats the custom 110 I would order. Yet, I like you would order it without the pins just because of that look. I think the pins do help in securing the handle material but todays glues are real good. So, if the look would be enhanced w/o pins then order it that way. Its not like these would be a hard use knife. Should you drop it and a slab pops off just glue it back on. DM

I agree with both of the above as glues are very good these days, go with whatever you like best

The cool thing is you can build it on the Buck web page and try it with different options, My two knife must haves this year are a custom Buck 110 and a New 2012 Buck Model 124, well as far as Buck knives go.

In all my life I've never heard of a slab popping off of a 110 from the Custom Shoppe......with or without rivets.

I think I will go with no rivets on one and see what it looks like, hope to get one in the next month or so! when I get it I will post a pic!

I have a smooth Buff handle with nickel silver and rivets. It's beautiful, but I don't know if it's any stronger. It makes me feel better to have rivets though.

Here are a few of my Custom Shop goodies. I believe I like the non-rivet construction better!

Top down: Micarta/G10, jigged/FG Asian water buffalo, and Fiji orangewood/rivets. All have nickel silver bolsters and BG-42 steel.

Here's a few both ways. At first, I thought I liked no rivets best, but have since changed my mind.

As an aside, I found this quote from A.G. Russell in his knife glossary very interesting. A pretty strong statement.

"Custom Knife

The following paragraph is the correct meaning of Custom Knife, however in today's knife world it means a knife not made in a factory, it can be handmade or assembled from mass produced parts.. Today the term is totally without meaning.

A Custom Knife is one in which the customer has either designed all or part of the knife OR a knife in which the customer has specified the materials in a makers own design. Selecting one of the listed handle materials in a makers catalog to be put on a blade of the makers design does not make a custom knife."
