I plan to order one and was wondering which wood was the more durable. Oak , Walnut or the Koa

I would go for the Koa. In fact, Idid!

It is tough stuff.

My Koa doesn't look quite like APFs. APF's is much prettier with the striping. Koa seems very durable. I've carried/used it for nearly 3 years and it still looks good. Holds up to blood well. Current pic below. Maybe APFs brass brings out the stripes.

I really like the koa look

The trouble is, not all koa is created equal. I have three of the cusrtom shop knives handled in koa and only one of them look much like what they show on the web site. As much as I love that one (second picture), I'd hesitate to order another one just because of the lack of figure in two out of the three.:( To quote someone famous, "Life is like a box of chocolates".

Man, I like all of you guys Koa handled knives . Tony, you must have gotten some of the last of the BG-42 cause its not offered any longer . DM

Hi caine,

You would do well with any of the wood scale's you are thinking about. The Oak & Walnut are just to plane jane for me.....KOA is sweet! If you do an order for KOA make sure you phone your order in and ask for a lot of the tiger stripe grain. I also like the brass with KOS better than NK.

PBD,
If I were you; I'd send that KOA back and ask them to replace the old fence board with some real KOA! What the hell were the CS folks thinking when they sent that SH_T out the door!

Well, all those great pictures of Koa have got my Custom Shoppe juices flowing again. I see a purchase in the near future. :)

You gonna put it on display and not use it? Get both.:D

You gonna use it? Same answer. :D:D

No one has ever wore out the handles on a Buck.

I'm not sure but I believe the walnut may be laminate-which they say is more durable that solid, I like solid myself.
