Custom 300 Series Knives? Has there been any?

Hey guys -

I'm wondering if there has been custom runs of knives in the 300 series, such as the 301 and 303 in particular.

One with a more premium blade steel and handles. Not that there is anything wrong with the standard blade steel.

I just think a 301 for instance, with S30v blades and jigged bone, would be pretty sweet.

I looked at the custom shop and they seem to focus more on the 110 and fixed knives instead of pocket knives.

I wonder that myself! If they would do some and offer some with bone handles I bet they would sell regardless!

Hi Joe,

The BCCI just did a BG-42 301 with Ivory micarta last year. It took the BCCI a while to sell these off. So, I don't see Buck jumping through any hoops to do it again any time soon.

I find that surprising I guess. Unless they were kinda overpriced. I'd like to run across one if it wasn't way spendy.

They have done some limited edition brown picked bone as well as some with white bone and malachite and a limited edition stag series. Mostly in the 301 pattern.

I would like to see more in the near future.

With the trouble they had getting rid of those, I don't see it happening any time soon. DM

I was able to snag a 303 with the jigged bone and it's pretty nice looking. Same blade steel though. Which is more than adequate for most I feel.

But maybe I'll see one of those club issues pop up somewhere in BG-42. I've a 560 with the Ti handle that I had the custom shop put a BG-42 blade on a few years ago. One of my favorites.

I'd like to see a 301 or a re-issue of the 307(? the larger stockman, at any rate) with 1095 blades, unpolished brass bolsters, with wood or micarta/G10 covers. A semi custom use it everyday knife you won't fret about if it gets scratched or dirty. At a price that will not break the bank - or worse, cause the wife/girl friend to go on a shopping spree.

The BCCI club knife in BG-42 is a great one and IIRC at around $100 I thought it was a heck of a value.

Just wish I had a better photo. Not sure if Buck has offered a premium steel before or not?

Most of the other models I've seen or own are limited editions more than custom like these brown jigged bone which I believe were limited editions. Out of the various 300 series I have these are my favorite or at least tied with the BG-42 as my favorites.

These three were purchased NIB at an auction some years ago and I've not seem many others since I got these. If Buck wanted to do some more limited runs I'd love some more in this same brown jigged bone even if they are the standard 420HC steel. A 301 in D2 would be nice as well even if the scales are standard production.

Yeah, that club knife is nice looking!

And I agree about the jigged bone. Kind of dresses the knife up a bit but still at a fair cost. Gives it a better look, to me anyway, than the delrin. But the delrin is very iconic. Sorta like the Vic alox. :) Soon as you see it, you know what it is.

Very nice JB. Thanks for the pics. I'll be watching for one unless you'd like me to store yours for you? I've plenty of room......;)

I think that's a great piece. I guess others do as well since I haven't seen one on the exchange before. :)
