After carefully opening this baby the first time, I was real worried not to drop it, with pictures in my mind of of the blade burying to the hilt in the floor and penetrating some poor soul’s head in the room below!

Awesome does not describe this knife. Pictures don’t do it justice. It’s technically well implemented and artistically rendered. The grinds on the 4” dagger are amazing. Lock up is rock solid.

Mr. Ralph took the time and called me to explain that the knife is meant to be flcked as much as you want, and that’s as it should be so that the construction around the pivot pin “works in”, much like pistons in an automobile engine. That’s why it is somewhat tight to start out with. In essence, this knife gets better with use!

Sabenza users are always asking about their beauties, “Stand and stare at it or use it?” Now I’m in the same boat. I bought the Mad Maxx 4 incher as a user, but now, after getting it, time will tell.

So for now, people who are on the opposite end of the phone are going to be asking me, “What’s that infernal flicking sound I hear in the background?”

Boink, I have the same problem with Darrel's knives. He makes them look so good, you just hate to use them. Have no fear in using them,in most cases Darrel can bring them back to darn near new condition. Darrel really does want people to use his knives. Like many makers, this is how he gets feedback to make the knives better.

As far as the flicking sound on the other end of the phone... did you here that when you were talking to Darrel? Seems like he always does that when I talk to him. ;)

i also have a 4" talonite SP blade/CF handle mini maxx, #3 of 10 i believe, and the workmanship is awesome!! fits together like a swiss watch. now i want a 5.5" maxx - and the flippers work even better when broken in.

My 5.5" Bowie Madd Maxx is on its way.
I can't wait. (My second one)
Darrel really wants us to use his knife.
Take it to the Maxx !!

I've seen 5.5 incher's for sale at the Northeast Cutlery show in CT. People snapped them up, but it's not for everybody (as witnessed all the various types of knives at the show). The knife at 4" was necessary for my area; I did not want to have to keep this knife at home with my auto's. But I think the Mad Maxx does look best in the longer blade configurations. That's just my opinion. But I do love my 4" max. Some knives you get out of the box and you KNOW they are keepers!

Yes 5.5" is a big boy. I initially bought the Mini 4" for an EDC carry. It will still be my EDC eventhogh I will get the MADD MAXX soon.
The MAXX cuts everything in sight, it is very sharp !
I was happy with my Mini Maxx until I read Tactical Knife magazine
review
and suddenly got the urge to get the big boy. The bigger blade
do look better. Here in NC I think the max blade length is 4",
so I was a little bit hesitated of getting the 5.5" but after
talking with Darrel, I was convinced I had to get one.
He is the nicest person. Very personal not cocky at all and treats his customer
with respect. He answered all my questions. ( Even the dumb ones)
I am a big fan of his knife work but also the man who creates this fantastic knife.
