Let's see some pictures!

Flawless fit and finish. I thought it was interesting that there is no S30V marking on the blade but definitely has the appearance of S30V.

That will make an excellent EDC knife ( Paul Bos S30V is a great blade steel ). I really like how Buck has expanded their custom shop line with the 500 series I just wish that they would include the 119 , 105 , 103 , 102 ect. but that is probably wishful thinking at best.

Jeff O, were you disappointed that there were only 2 inlay rivets, as oppossed to the 3 rivets pictured in the Custom Shop? I've got 1 on the way, but I was expecting 3 rivets, which would make the 501 different from a regular production knife.

I got my email Thursday that my 503 is on the way. Now comes the hard part of waiting! That`s a nice 501, what`s the handle material?

Jeff O,

How's the backspring on the custom 501's? Is it flush in the open and closed positions, or does it dip a bit when closed?

I had one built and in my cart for a few hours, but ended up not going through with it. Maybe after the holidays...

Backspring on this one is flush, open & closed, Custom 501, S30V blade steel and oak scales:

BTW, overal length is 6.5 inches open (Buck site had 5.4?) and no S30V blade stamp.

My pleasure SD.

Mine looks like it was built by competent good folk with wills to rise above obstacles to the pursuit of great accomplishment. I'm tickled to the point where I feel the need to rise up my own self in order to better approach the stature of this thing I possess. Thank you kindly Buck.

It looks to me like the animation used to show your rivets choice on the Buck site was simply lifted from that of the 110 custom build animation. The 110 does have three scale rivets. It would have been better if a separate animation had been created to show the two rivets being added for the 500 series custom knives. Something was left on the cutting room floor perhaps. What a complex task to add a new knife series to Buck's wonderful Custom Shop, lights, camera, action and such...

Not disappointed at all. I think the three rivets might look funny but that could just be because I am accustom to the two rivets on the standard model 501. The web page initially shows two rivets in the sketch. When a handle is selected it shows three so I just figured it was a web issue.

Backspring is flush when open and when closed. There is almost zero blade play and lockup is rock solid. It is about as close to perfect as it can get.
