I have a Maxpedition Proteus bag and love it. I would like to "upgrade" it in a few places, but keep the general shape/size...just slightly bigger (and minus the fanny-pack part).

I've looked at a lot of bags and haven't found what I've wanted...so I'm wondering if there are custom bag-makers like there are custom knifemakers.

Know anybody that will take a custom design and make it?

Both my wife and sister-in-law can sew clothing pretty good...but rather than burden them with something they've never done before...I think I'd rather have a more experienced person take a crack at it.

Willing to pay for good work...but don't need Gucci quality. :foot:

:p

Bills Custom Case has done custom stuff for me in the past, but I think he's focused on his "production" lines now.

Sewing the heavy fabrics that these sorts of things are made of requires a different machine than you wife or sister-in-law probably has.

Hi Daniel-

The fannypack portion of the Maxpedition Proteus is designed to fold quickly and invisibly inside the case specifically for hand carry.

Daniel, two or three people are making bags for sale over on USN. The shoulder bag from the movie Spartan is pretty popular over there right now.

Dan, have you checked out Filson bags? The quality is outstanding, but the price is fairly high. I have three Filson bags; briefcase, X-lg outfitter, and compartment (?) bag. I wish I had gotten the bigger size in both the briefcase and compartment bag though. They make a couple of bags that could almost be considered "man purses" without being metrosexual about it. Check out www.filson.com

edited to add: The model #'s of the stuff I have are: model 256 = briefcase, model 239 = XL outfitter bag, model 264 = compartment bag.
Models 257 & 258 are larger briefcases. Model 265 is the larger compartment case.
Model 230 is the small field bag and model 232 is the medium field bag... both of those are the aforementioned Filson "man-purses".
