Interest in a custom Talonite balisong? I think there are at least a few people that might wet their pants when they see your post.

Hi,

I Wonder in the industry if they (whoevermakes them) are good Quality do they have as strong a Following as More Quasi Conventional folders, or is a Specific Target Group more likely to buy them.

DO most People Prefer them with or without
a Safety latch, i would think without is more Practical, I also think they are looped into the same classification as Switch Blades arent they (legality wise).

And SIZE wise, whats most appealing.

ANY good Sites out there showing pictures anyone knows of?

I think if Properly Done right and with the Proper material it has to be Enginerically
one of the Strongest Pivot type Folders there is, or am i misleading myself?

See ya,,,,,allen

Allen,

You are correct about the strength of the balisong design.

Most balisongs seem to be designed for quick deployment, fighting, and only light utility. Please give some thought to a utility balisong. How about a balisong with a thick, ergonomic, strong, locking handle, and a wide blade, that can be used for heavy utility and camp chores? I would sacrifice speed of opening for strength.

Ideally you should be able to carry the knife in your pocket. This would mandate lightweight but strong handle material, and a secure lock to preclude any accidental opening.

Even if the knife is carried in a sheath, it should be safer in it's folded condition that a conventional fixed blade in a leather sheath is during a fall.

You might give some thought to modifying your MEUK design, and adding another design with more belly for skinning type chores also.

Talk to me baby... I've been looking for a maker to do a balisong with a Talonite blade. I just can't find a maker who can do the handles and joints who will work with Talonite. I'm told it just destroys tools.

Anyway, if you are wanting to do one, let's talk.

Hello,

wow i never thought of an all TALONITE
Balisong,,what a concept, should be easy enough to do. I will call Rob and get the ball rolling on it.

I have also seen a few Ralph Turnbull models that Used Titanium as there Handle material.

i think Micarta and G-10 would work also but it would have to be Structurally Reinforced with a Liner of some type im sure.

Was this design Used more as a Defence knife originally or a Utility type Role?

I went to the site that was Linked to above and watched a few of that guys Video clips on his site,,,That guy is GOOD!!!!

yep i think a few of these are in the near future after i get a few things caught up.

thanks for the replies,

Allen

Interested for sure, with a more working kind of blade shape, but I DO prefer the latch on the knife as I use that for a lot of my opening techniques and would be sorely missed.
Solid handles, inserts are ok, skeletons as well, but don't go building each handle as they don't seem to stand up to the beatings, so go solid and machine out the blade groove, maybe take a tip from Benchmade on the bridge deal to prevent the latch from hittin the blade? might be patented, might not?

Allen,
I am with Steve on this one, i.e. up for one but with a steel blade. Any idea of what you might price them at?

*raises hand* guilty as charged.. a chunk of my collection is now customs.. and my back pocket is feeling it real bad. Please keep me on your list if you are ging to make a talonite blade.. i can bring it for show and tell in my baliasong addicts support group.

Talonite is tugh stuff woudl be perfect considering the beating this thing takes..

as for the latch. ofcourse. the best opening techniques require the latch.

As for defense or utility Benchmade (more specifically Pacific cutlery) wanted to popularize the "this aint a weapon.. really!! Please dont make it illegal" motif.. with the propaganda where business suited execs and guys with clipboards in their other hand could open boxe.. but you ad I know this is a real cool defenseblade.

Others might htikh differently but I keep my bali sharp and do the utility for mt 710 =)

wouldn't an ALL Talonite bali be expensive though (what justifies making the handles talonite except 'novelty') but get real I knwo I am a sucker for it

good luck sir. if we canhelp just ask us bali fans.

You bet. If you decide to develop a dealer program, please put me high on the list. I'd be willing to put some sales promotion into it (even a magazine ad feature in Blade) and try to sell everything you can make. Take care.

Oh yeah you mentioned blade size.. I thin a 4 inch blade is popular because of knife laws and the scarce availability of 5 inch blades out there many people think that 4 inch is 'standard'.. but the Vientenuebe is actually a great size knife.. 5 inch blade and 29 cm overall.

Man, I go MIA for a few days and look at what I've been missing.

Mr. Blade, as you can see, the interest is there. To be honest this is the kind of thing we Balisong fanatics have been missing.

Not many people out there trying to satisfy this small (but growing quickly) market.

I think everyone, no matter what there handle type, material, and size preference is, requires the same thing....... a STRONG pivot pin set-up. For some reason, many Balis are put together with this as an afterthought, and the entire knife suffers because of it.

Just something to keep in mind.

OOooooooh yeah, an 01, 1095, or ATS blade with G10 handles with a 401 liners.... drooooooooool....

CNC mill them with user maintainable pins / screws and a nice satin / polish finish.... I'd buy one.

I've been an avid balisong man since the Pacific Cutlery days, about 17 years ago. I enjoy them a lot. Not only are they great knives, but you must work at them to master their opening abilities. Once you've mastered them, it's a great feeling. They also increase your finger dexterity and eye to hand coordination. A very functional knife and a fun workout. I would like to see one with a 4" Talonite weehawk style blade with the false edge sharpened, titanium handles with handle serrations down all sides for grip and grooved carbon fiber inlays. Yes, oh yes!
