The guy my dad buys his plaques from (he mounts horns/antlers) is a big woodworker dude. He loves to do anything, and I asked him if he could do some handles for my Beckers and he smiled at me and said,

"You know, I've been thinking of doing that myself for a while, now I'll have something to tell my wife when she asks me why I'm doing this - it's for a customer."

I don't know for sure what kind of woods he can procure, but I'm guessing mostly ones found naturally in the good ol' Pacific Northwest (WA, to be specific). So, this in mind, what would be a good, durable wood - with aesthetics in there, too - that would serve the purpose well?

Black Locust, Holly or Maple Burl would be nice.
