Looks real nice!

The BK11's handle is pretty small to start with and the addition of the scales makes the gripping area look even smaller as if youd only be able to wrap 2 fingers around it.

Does the scales make the BK11 more comfortable to handle?

Knives are great in terms of managing variables. For me a full size handle with 1/4" thick scales extending 1.5" past the end of tang is actually the most ergonomic. However, you cover up the wire breaker and bottle opener and turn a very small knife into a small/medium size. Meanwhile, I find the skeleton frame uncomfortable and needing some help in the looks department. Scales also add some very minor weight.

For me, I like options. I may remove the scales from time to time based on how I carry. Also might buy a few neckers and keep one on my backpack (larger), one on belt loop (small) and one very large scales forthe workshop/desk.

Short answer to your question? Yes they are more comfortable for me with the partial scales.

Is this the Necker you made for me??
WHY ISN'T IT IN THE MAIL YET?? :D

Looks awesome Randy! Can't wait to fondle it! And then fondle it some more!

:D I know, it's sad. I'm tempted to ask you to just send the whole bunch over for an extended holiday... ;)
Seriously, the middle one (BK2?) looks awesome also, actually classy and chic with that dark brown handle on a black blade.

Randy's knife arrived today and it's even better than the pictures show. I cannot give feedback for this thread as it is not a sales thread, but it would have been very positive!

Cool scales indeed. I've made one for myself, in Olive-wood.
I'm going to attempt to do the same with my RAT IZULA. Which should be easier due to the simplicity of the handle.

Olive wood? Sounds awesome post a pic please!

Izula works well you can get some ideas from pics I posted on the rat forum

Marathonman...the Cocobolo looks great, but have to ask...I notice you don't shape the handles to the profile of the blade tang..or are my eyes playing games on me after watching football games all afternoon?? .is there a reason for that? Looks like it may not be so comfortable for prolonged use.

Thanks - it really just depends on what I'm trying to achieve. In some cases, following the exact tang :

In other cases working to improve the design if possible.

I have alot of blades and know that one size does not fit all. For example, check this picture (not mine):

Note how short the handle is on the one on the top. I would change that too.

To me, that's a big part of the joy - improving on an already great design!

Becker knives rock.

Absolutely gorgeous! Always wanted to do some wood scales with a nice IWB clip sheath for my BK11, just have never got around to it.
