custom blade for OD-1 or zing?

OK - stupid question - if I have a knife I like, for example Kershaw OD-1, is it possible to have someone duplicate the blade in a higher end steel and fit it to existing handle? Since a sebenza costs >$300, would it be so bad to pay ~$100 or so for a blade in S110v or ZDP, to have a knife with a great opening mechanism, frame lock, lock stabilizer, that I already know I like?

I may be mistaken, that what I am asking for would cost many times more than I have suggested. If anyone can enlighten me, or knows of any manufactures that might be interested in looking at it, let me know.

The 14C28N blade steel isn't too shabby. Don't know if its quite in the same league as S110V or ZDP189, but its an exclusive from Sandvik just for Kershaw design to be a high quality steel for production knives. Kershaw does release many of their knives with various high end blade steels in "sprint" runs. You might want to wait for a little while and see whats coming in 2010. Otherwise, I think you'd have to go with a custom maker if you only wanted one blade made.

The OD-1 is a Lee Williams design. He might be able to answer your question. Here is one of his older customs that looks a lot like the OD-1.
