Custom blade for production knife

Is this something that's relatively unheard of? Or do people do it often?

I love the stonewashed Elmax blade on my ZT 0770 but I like the shape and length of the blade on the 0452, shame it's "only" made from S35VN. I would like to investigate getting a blade for the 0452 made in Elmax...

I'm sure there is someone who would do it for you.

I've been asked to do similar things before, and for ME PERSONALLY, I find it better and easier to just make a whole new knife than try to fit a new blade into someone else's existing handle/lock/hardware.

But that's just my take and others' perspectives may be different.

They are uncommon but not unheard of. I have one that I traded in to. It is an Emerson Commander that was rebladed in m390 and much thicker than stock blades. I didn't care for the blade shape and Charlie Mike was kind enough to make it more towards my liking.

There is another gentleman here on BladeForums that has an awesome looking Rat 1 rebladed to a wharncliffe in m390.

This is a mini Commander, just to give you an idea of the original blade shape prior to being rebladed.

Here are some before and after pics mine.

This is how I received it, sitting next to a CQC 10 for reference.

After CM had at it.

I see. What should it cost for a 100% custom knife similar to the 452?
Depends on the maker and materials.

Cool, thanks for the input. I would not change the size or shape, maybe make it a bit shorter so that the point is recessed further into the handle when closed

Big Chris and razor-edge-knives, are members here that do regrinds. May be of interest.

Yeah I was thinking of doing the same thing for my 0452cf myself, maybe in some super exotic steel if I can get my hands on it. I want to make custom knives but don't have the facilities to do so, but I could probably make a blade if I put a lot of work into it. I don't know how soon I will try it (this will be my first knife-making project ever), but if I do and it goes well I can quote you a price for a blade if you don't find anyone else to make it.

Sweet thanks! The way I see it, Elmax, M390, or CTS-204P would be the way to go. And perhaps stone washing the blade so you can't see the fingerprints on it :)

sounds to me liek an easy fix shape wise tho since you said you wanted a different steel thats a whole other ballgame
shortening coudl be done nicley for im guessing 20 bucks and shipping (just guessing) reblade might start at 10x that number

Yeah I wouldn't bother reshaping on the factory blade but if I was replacing it then I might think about shortening. Just have to find someone to do it
