Custom Bread Knives - Who? What? Why?

It occurred to me a while ago that although I have dozens of beautiful, fancy, expensive hunters, tacticals, folders etc., my kitchen cutlery was little better than Ginsu quality. So I began bringing my most used cutlery up to the level of my other knives.
I had little problem finding fabulous kitchen knives, carving/serving sets and especially chef's knives, but very few custom bread knives seem to be out there. That's surprising, given that this knife is so commonly use and often is a centerpiece of family meals on some holidays.
I know that George Tichbourne makes some very nice ones, and so does Ed Storch, both well known Canadian makers. Pictures or comments on those would be appreciated. Are there any others?
Also, do you really need a special design for a bread knife? And do you need serrations?

Check out Rob Simonich's web site. He makes some fine looking kitchen blades. Read the potato story on his home page too, truely an amazing story!!

Always think of your fellow knife makers as partners in the search for the perfect blade, not as people trying to compete with you and your work!

Buzzards gotta eat, same as worms!!!

I will have one on the table before the Guild show in April.

I wouldn't bother but cutting a crusty Italian loaf without serrations is almost impossible. I made a couple a few years back and swore I would never do it again because they were so flimsy that they scared me, this time I will keep the length down to 12" and it should be safer when I buff it.

Never seen a custom bread knife, have seen a custom Jewish wedding knife, sorta a bread type knife maybe, great stuff. They get REALLY fancy. But not expensive. After all it IS a bread knife ;-)
