Custom Buck 110 "Q" seeks "A"

Amici,
I recently acquired a Buck 110 that had some custom work done. The wood grips were replaced with orange micarta, filework was also done to the back spring as well as to the brass bolsters making it truly one of a kind, perfect for my 110 EDC rotation..

But there seems to be a problem or maybe not. I notice that there is blade play not only when the blade is closed, but also there is some side to side play when it is locked open.. I was thinking of sending it to Buck to tighten it up, but my fear is that they may excessively damage the file work done which was done to the bolsters.

Question is, should I send it in to Buck, leave it as is (as long as there's no safety issue), or perhaps send it out to a third party that could address the blade play with minimal damage to the file work?

Inquiring minds would like to know..

Cheers,
Serge

I doubt Buck will touch it as it's been modified and the warranty is voided. You'll have to do it or contract it out. DM

I dot know, I contacted them recently about getting a blade replaced in a knife I had put new scales on and they said they would replace it. It wouldn't be considered a warranty replacement so I would have to pay for the new blade

I'm not really sure how you could tighten the pivot without messing with the file work. :(

Depending on how delicate the bolster-work is — you could squeeze the front bolsters in a vise. Pad the jaws with several layers of rag, hardwood, or some similar material, then squeeze the jaws gently tighter. Easy does it! Remove the knife after every squeeze and check the blade-play.

Yes, you'll run some risk of damaging the bolster-work, especially if its very delicate. But it's hard to see any other way to tighten the pivot.
