Well the 110 is selling for $22 at Walmart, before this I was about to purchase a custom 110 but now I have started wondering if it's worth buying a $22 knife for over $100 with a blade from different steal. What do you guys think ? For me it's not a question of money I just want to get value for my $$ . I was thinking of getting bg42 + nickel + waterbuffalo:cool:

Buck Custom 110's rock....and I have that exact combo your wanting, do it...do it....join the cult!

Could you post a picture of it. I would also like to know what is the difference between the regular Water buffalo and smooth Water buffalo. I thought that the horn was always smooth.

I've got 110's in the std 420HC and BG-42. Both do a great job, but my favorite is the BG-42. It takes an incredible edge and holds it a long time. I had an older 110FG re-bladed with the BG-42 rather than a custom shop version. No regrets at all!

If you're not sure you want to go the custom shop route, you could do what I did and get the Cabela's Alaskan Guide Series model 110 for about $60. It has an S30V blade.

That was going to be my suggestion to. At only 60 bucks you shouldn't feel like you are getting less for your money. You pay more than the 22 bucks for a normal 110, but you get more too.

Here ya go!

The one farthest back is a textured water buffalo, it has a really nice raised jigging to it that provides a great grip.

The second from the front is the smooth water buffalo, it has natural white striatians in it but it's totally smooth on the surfave.

The others are my Sambar Stag (front) and my Elk (third back)

Here's is a more close-up view of the knife.

It's a great knife. One of my favorites.

These jigged (textured) scales are not flat, but are convex with a gentle outward swell which gives the knife a distinctive grip and feel in the hand - a really nice feature that doesn't show up in the photograph.

I ordered a custom last week. Sambar Stag, Nickel-Silver bolsters, finger grooves and BG-42 blade. It costs $124 shipped.

When you look at knives with premium handle materials, and premium blade steel combined, the Buck custom is a good value.

FWIW, I noticed that someone recently sold the same model I ordered on ebay for way over $124 -- was won for $191.

I'm not sure why someone paid $191 for a knife you can still buy for $124 shipped -- maybe they thought the stag was exceptional or something. The lesson their is that the resale value is pretty good, if you can ever imagine yourself selling something that nice.

That said, the regular 110 for $22 and change is a good value too. So is the Cabela's Alaskan Guide at $59.95 with Rose Wood scales and S30V blade.

Another bargain, IMO, is older used 110s on ebay. A couple of weeks ago I picked up 2 2-dots (mid to late 70s) for $13 and change apiece. They have 440C blades, and I've been using both of them. The lockup on both is 100% solid, and I expect with minimal care they'll outlast me.

I think the custom Buck`s are one of the best deals out there. I got mine a year ago, BG-42 blade, oak handle, nickle bolsters with my initials, and brown sheath for right around $100. Try finding anywhere else you can design your own folder for that price.

Thanks for the pictures that looks much nicer than I expected. Will I buy one ..... I'm still thinking about it but you pointed me in the right direction.

I have a stag in BG-42. Have been thinking about the water buffalo, and that pic made me want one even more. Nice pic, nice knife.
