I finished up this Buck 112 today. I removed the rear bolsters so everything in the rear was flush, re-profiled the blade to a drop point, rounded the front bolsters, and rehandled it with mulberry root. It was a "2 dot" with no finger pull. Waht do you think?

The knife balances alot better now, not buttheavy at all, one thing I disliked about the 112.

As a person that is really fond of the 112, I think you did a great job. I particularly like the drop point blade. It makes me very anxious to see what the Buck custom version is going to look like. If it comes close to yours I'll be very happy. :)

That's Sweet. I like the profile getting wider as you go to the back.:)

Nice work!

Wow! Muskratman,
That is really good. When I see work like that I really wish I had tallent.

I can't complain. I was blessed with a belly bigger than most men and the hair all moved off my head on to my back.

Sure wish I could fix something for once with out making it worse.

I'm a big fan of drop-points and clean flowing lines, and you did a great job on this one! It really looks nice and "custom" but it still has it's identity as a Buck. Very nice work, man!

thanks guys. I prefer the drop point and clean lines too. I like lengthened clips like on this knife aswell.

I still have a 110 in the process of butchering, just need to flat grind the blade and do some more bolster work. I think I'll handle it in desert ironwood
Thanks again for the comments

I think its awesome. Just needs a thumb stud and pocket clip and its complete IMO.

 ...You've done a fine job there muskrat. That knife has a whole new life ahead of it now. What are you using for a scale adhesive on your re-scales?...Those scales look really nice and as most folks around here know, I also tend towards the drop- point side myself...LOL...Great job... ...

Thanks, STR, I have a couple that I have a clip and stud in mind for, this one will stay as is, a belt carry, should unzip a deer, no problem.

Darryl, I use Devcon 2 ton epoxy on most, Devcon 5 minute on some I mostly stick with 2 ton epoxy though, gives you plenty of time to work things into thier respective spots and is super strong, the 5 minute stuff don't give you much time to mess around.

Very nice M_M,

Now If you would make it a big brother from a 110 with the same scale material and drop point blade, then you 'ed have the ultimate custom matched pair ;). That 112 you customized has classic lines.

you read my mind JB, I had plans on picking up a beater 110 for a big brother to it, only difference would be, I had planned on desert ironwood. This mulberry root is a pain to work with, VERY pourus, never gets smooth, no matter how much you sand, steel wool, and raise the grain and repeat, I got it as smooth as I could and left it alone.

yeah, just cut the stuff, let it dry for a year or so, then slab it out on the bandsaw. I finish all my handles with hand rubbed boiled linseed oil, most of my wood I harvest myself (that explains the osage, mulberry, walnut, loucust, redbud, sumac ect). Apart from the desert ironwood I have inbound.

I don't know of anybody in their right mind that wouldn't be proud to carry that good looking knife!! Fine work indeed. Do you customize your Bucks strictly for fun or do you sometimes sell them?

I mainly do it for myself, friends and family. What did you have in mind, feel free to shoot me an email.
Take Care
