I just noticed that the Buck Custom Shop has Buck 500s now. I'd really like to get one of these, but I wanted to ask y'all a few questions first.

1. How long are these expected to be in the Custom Shop? Probably my most important question.

2. Do any of you already have pictures of any custom 500s? I would really be happy to see what engravings look like on these. I did find the 110 engravings thread, but I'd like to see them on the 500, too. I'm thinking indigo royal wood or cherrywood right now with the nickel bolsters.

3. And, if you had to pick only one of the Buck 500s, which would you pick and why?? I've never had one of these, but I do have the Buck 55 and the 110, so I'm leaning towards the 501 or the 503 (because I do like the size of my 55).

Thanks for your help, fellas.

I am sure those models will be on the site as long as they are popular. I am hoping we will eventually add the 500 Duke as well but well see on that.
I dont have any pics of knives with engravings on them.
For me personally, I would probably go with the 501 because I like a bit larger knife to carry around. I like stag or elk and I know either would look good against the NK bolsters.

No engraving, but here is my 503 in indigo with nickle bolsters.

Good-lookin knives, thanks for them. I think I'll get the 501 later this year. Since every thread I've seen about these knives mentions the Buck Duke, I was wondering what the differences were between the 501 and the Duke. Is it just the half-inch and the extra 1 1/2 oz of weight? They look very similar in the old Duke picture threads. And why does everyone love the Duke so much and not the 501, which looks like it would be just as great?

For me, it's the size. I carry one or the other of a bunch of 301's or a 701 every day in my pocket. The 501 is a sweet little knife (I have a few) but it is pocket size and I prefer the multi bladed stockman type for that. The Duke is the same size as a 112, just thinner and is a great size to carry in a belt sheath.

No, unfortunately Dave, there is no engraving nor stamp telling you about the blade steel on the flip side...

Custom 501 vs custom 500 Duke (2.83 ounces vs 4.76 and the Duke boasts 3/4" longer overall):

Man, I like the looks of that Hertiage Duke. DM

THX DM.

It is my only Duke but it is a whopper. It hits a homerun on all fronts: Fit, finnish, function and fun factor.

BTW: I'm also at the "Hertiage," If I haven't taken an aspirin I'm thinking about it...:)

I cant tell you how much I would love to see the Duke in the CS, but also back as a regular production model. I still cant figger out why it got dropped. It IMHO is the nicest knife Buck has made.

A big reason you hear about the 500 is because it's discontinued. My favorite is the 501 and have carried it for over 20yrs. I do like the Duke 500 and would like to get one to customize myself.
