Custom Buck

For some reason I can't get your pictures to load, so i can't see the handles, but yours is indeed a Commemorative for the North Carolina Bicent. Yours would be number 84 out of a total of 250 pieces. Levine's 5th edition gives a good list of the Comm. that Buck has done over the years.

PS...I couldn't help but notice that your post today in teh Buck forum was your 110th post!

Fate????

LOL I did not realize it was my 110th post. Thanks for pointing it out. Tyro the links again I just tried and had not problem. OK I lied I did have a problem also. maybe afer a while we will be able to bring them up. Are these knives rare or are they more rare then the reg. 112? Thanks for yor help. Does the custom mean that it is from the custom shop? :D , If so it will be my first semi custom. Need to save A LOT of money before I ger the custom I want. Thanks again, John

ps thanks for a fast reply, John

Yep, they are working now.

I'll take a crack at your questions, someone may come along that can fill in any gaps.

Wood appears to be Rosewood, which Buck uses on alot of these "special order" 110's and 112's.

Blade steel should be 425M which Buck used from 1981-1994.

As for rare, while 112's have been made in the "god knows how many", this special order should have only been 250 pieces by the tangstamp. Value tends to vary, I see these Commemoratives go on E-Bay for anywhere from 40.00 to 80.00 depending on what it commemorates.

And it was either made in the custom shop, or used blades that had been stamped for the custom shop. My guess is that it was, but one of the smarter folks around here will have a better idea.

Well I thank you very much for all your help. I have not intentions of selling, just wanted to know if they are rare or if they come a dimae a dozen. In your recommendations would you keep it in the mint shape its in or would it be ok to use ( I am more of the type to open and close knives verses just looking at them. I must admit the box goes good with the knife abd I would not want to put wera on the blade from opening it. Also just wanted to add this knife locks up super tight with NO blade play and everything is centered. Thanks again, John

As they only made 250 of that commemorative model, and regular 112's are not that expensive, I would not use a commemorative like that. ANY use is going to lower the value considerably/

Thanks for all the help. I have to made my mind up to make it a shelf queen :D. Thanks for all the info you have given me, I guess what I asked about useing it was dumb because I already have another 112 as seen in the pic and that should saticfy my open and closing. I thank you again for all you help and I wish you well. Thanks John
