Custom bullet pen?

Hi,

I've got a chrome Fisher Bullet Space Pen and I love it. What I was wondering is if anyone has tried making a custom version in either stainless steel or damascus. I've seen Damasteel round stock with a nice twist pattern. Any ideas on who to approach for something like this?

Do a search in "ShopTalk" for damascus pens. Laredo7mm makes fatastic pens,

I've talked to both of them with no luck. If there are any custom pen makers willing to take a shot at this, please let me know.

I think the problem is going to be with the cap. Fisher makes them so thin that it may not be possible with the materials you described. I think you might be able to do it with only having the body made out of damascus since all you need to do is to milled out the space inside for the refill, and some threads to help keep it closed. Hope this helps.

I was thinking along similar lines. I think that it might be possible to make a thicker cap, but bevel it slightly near the end so it doesn't look so awkward. If you put a little rubber o-ring inside like Fisher does, that should give it enough resistance so the cap won't come off by accident. What do you think?

Works for me. I'd like to see the result.

Has anyone heard from "The Writer's Edge" recently. I ordered some Fisher Pens weeks ago and they haven't arrived. No one there is responding to my emails.

Joe,

World Lux has some pens made by Brian Tighe's son. Here's an example of one of them. There's also an Odin's Eye and Twist damascus and a Titanium model as well. The down side is $$$. Far from a Fisher price tag.

EEK! Just noticed Dr. Nick beat me to the punch!

Very nice. What's the price for something like that?
Nothing like the Tighe pens but at 198$ they went fast. I carry it everyday and it raises eyebrows going through security but it goes through. Nothing sharp and it is a pen! But it is pretty obvious that it could be useful to do more than write. I take the cap off when I put it through the x-ray machine and that helps if they instantly see it as a pen and don;t have to think --- thinking isn;t the strong suit of the people paid to annoy passengers and create the illusion of security (oh, sorry -- that rant has been done already).
