Anybody know if a Busse custom shop knife is $100 per inch total length of knife, or just per inch of blade. For example, a 10 inch blade with a 6" handle would be $1000 or $1600?

My understanding is that the handle is included in the measurement (ie $1600). I would be interested to hear from someone who has actually gone through the process, though.

:D

There are several things that go into the final price. The base price may be $100 per inch, including the handle but you also have to take into consideration handle material, handle style, grind, swedge, serrations, blade finish, thickness of the blade, etc. The $100 per inch is just a rule of thumb. You have to speak to the shop to get an exact price. What I would do is write down everything you want on the knife and email the shop and if that doesn't work, call the shop. I have done many Custom Shop special orders. Be prepared to be patient! I have waited over two years for the customs I just received.
But the wait, was well worth it...

because I now have two one of a kind knives that I can be assured will not be reproduced! Good luck with your quest! :D

I've heard that they have stopped taking custom orders at the moment...

But again... call the shop and ask.

Those rhinestone inlays must have been extremely hard to pull off.

I have been fortunate enough to have Ronybear pick out a few new knives for me. And it made me realize that I have no business being a knife collector:o. The few he has picked for me are the absolute cream of my collection, on par with my old straight handles. I could pretty much get rid of the other 100 newer Busses I have and be happy.

When it comes to having an eye for a knife he isTHE MAN!!!

I can't wait to see these customs!!! :D :D :D

pricing varies.

I got two satin jack customs, both of wich either have to be made from scratch, or ground down A LOT from the original blade blanks. I'm assuming that its a "custom from scratch" situation. Both cost 600$ (I think... might have been 650)

the satin jack tac is 12" long, and my sjtac custom will have essentially the exact same profile, so thats only 50$ an inch for the overal knife. The blade itself will be about 6", so it would even out to about 100$ an inch for the blade itself.

the moab is around 19 1/" overall with a 13" blade and a standard black on black cost me 1,800$. so thats a bit less than an inch for the overall knife.

It may be that anything under (x) length is charged roughly by the blade length, and anything over (y) length is charged per inch of the entire knife.

that may also apply to thickness.

Yeah, that PorkyBear is one  HOG. His INFI force is strong.

for me, it is the notorious 2 weeks :)

I sent a check in email to garth a few days ago. it's a year and 9 months, so I'll just make it a christmas habit/tradition to send an email to check in on them. I don't really expect them to be done until sometime in 2009 (and potentially later).

Well, guess we'll have to wait until 2009 then.
Still beats Randall's 4 1/2 year wait !
