Custom Chef's knives

Very nice. I have liked your handle designs since I first saw them.

Very nice! They have such a great flow to them.

I've said it before but your handle style is very cool and very creative. I love the sheaths too. Even the way you cut the corners of it at the opening really goes well with the overall look.. It's hard to beat a nicely forged blade with white paper steel. It's a very handsome overall package.

I hope you don't mind me asking, but what thickness (or ounce) leather did you use for those sheaths, and how did you finish or seal the insides of them to keep them from rusting the blade while also being food safe? I know one maker with saturates the insides of his leather sheaths for his kitchen knives with lard, but I'm wondering it there is an alternative lol. Also, how did ya do that dye pattern, did you use two different dyes? It really looks great. I'm mainly asking since I'm trying to figure out if I want to make a leather sheath or a wooden saya for my first kitchen knife, but since I don't have any wood in the correct size other than plywood, I'm leaning towards leather.

Thanks for sharing!

Hi Paul,

Thanks! the leather I use is 3mm thick. I don't put any sealant inside the sheath. My thinking is it's better to let it breath so hopefully any moisture inside will have a chance to get absorbed by the leather rather then being trapped inside the sheath.

For the dying I used light brown and dark brown dye. First a coat with the light brown and then just apply consecutive coats around the edges to create the effect.

Jelle, the handles you are using here are very comfortable, wish I would have purchased more but varity is the spice of life. They cut very well and are super easy to sharpen.
