Imperial Schrade has been known as a maker of working-class knives, but nothing that's excited the Forum crowd recently.

How about a D'Alton Holder design hunter in BG42, 416 stainless guard, and real stag handle slabs on a tapered tang? Limited edition of 1000. The press release doesn't give an ETA or price, but I'm told verbally it's in the $200-something range. Digital photo with dubious lighting.

Or a new extension of the liner lock idea by Lake and Walker? A Zytel/Kevlar sort-of-integral lock, with a circular piece of hardened steel that engages the matching cutout in the tang. BG42 again. 2 7/8" blade. Retail $200, ETA March. Same dubious lighting for the digital photo.

The press releases came with professional 35mm slides, so that gives me a need to use my new scanner attachment when I get back.

Clearly as many have predicted the factory's will be taking it up another notch this year and go after more of the custom knife market. This is going to be one heck of a year in the hobby!

BG42 or anything else doesn't seem to sell itself, as I have the impression that Kabar has had modest success with their D2 folder, as has Buck with their offerings in BG42. Although I don't expect that it will ever happen I'd like to see Schrade offer a couple of Old Timers in something like D2 or CPM 3V or BG42, etc., the models being the current 8OT large stockman, and the discontinued 225OT (?) large folding hunter with the saw. Three blades of D2 would offer decent edge holding :^)

A LONG time ago, we had a thread asking about the WORST knife you've ever used. It was almost unanimously the Schrade Beast- or was it one of their Cliphangers? Whether we like to admit it or not, almost everyone involved with BFC LOVES a good "tactical folder" type knife. When someone makes a crappy "tactical folder", most of us find out REAL quick. I was at Boy Scout camp once, and someone pulled out a Schrade Beast to brag about it. I laughed my arse off, just thinking about my Cold Steel XL Voyager. This, of course, was before the Vaquero Grande, El Hombre, and Sifu were born.
