Good Day,

So after the thread where I was asking about the Becker Necker...

http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=706959

I got one of the Becker Neckers...

And, I am gonna make a Custom Concealex Sheath for it....

But, I want to know, what do you all think?

Anything you really wanted in this sheath that it does not have?

Or do you just want a copy of the original, but in better material, with better action?

I was thinking to make it pretty much the same way, that way you could still wrap it with cord, ranger bands would still work real well on it... Etc...

Let me know....

I'd like my sheath to be more like your other sheaths on your site. Rivets down both sides, low profile, thin. The one that comes with it ok, but there's no point making an aftermarket sheath that's anything like it.

I'm looking for a thinner, smaller 'normal' kydex sheath for mine.

It will be, a bit narrower, and a bit slimmer. And I will put rivets down both sides.

What about the bumps that make it easier to wrap in cord?

Any other ideas or features?

I'd like it to be clean and simple.

Smaller and slimmer than the current version.

Something similar to the Camillus version would be good.

But... rather than just replicate it as is... can you improve it?

For myself, I don't use it around my neck. And the way it is made, it doesn't lend itself well to belt carry. I would like for it to carry a small firesteel without increasing the size, And... be able to use the firesteel without having to remove it (less chance of loss that way). I don't know that the firesteel could be glued in like on a mag bar, but maybe the sheath could be formed around it tight enough (and leave enough exposed) that it wouldn't fall out, but could be replaced (an interfeerance press fit). Just some thoughts. I pocket carry mine right now. Even with paracord, it rides too high on my belt.

So...

You want it to sit lower on the belt. That can be accomplished with a dropper plate or dropper with integral belt loop.

This is my dropper plate...

And I also make them with an integral loop.

Would that solve the issue of the way it rides, for you?

With the firesteel idea...

I think this could be done, what if a firesteel was epoxied to a metal plate, and then the metal plate was bolted to one face of the sheath?

Would those solutions dial it in for you?

Thanks for posting the image, Codger_64.

Yes, I liked that sheath very much for the BK11. It did its job well.
IMO the new version of the sheath is unnecessarily large and unwieldy.

This is a sketch of what I was thinking. The belt drop would be a folded single piece with the sheath back for less bulk and simplicity. Or even be flat with a formed slot for the belt to pass thru without bending the sheath or belt.

The firesteel loop would be coformed from either the front or back panel and secured by an adjacent brad, rivet or eyelet.

I have some observations that I would like to make, but I don't want to offend you. Do you mind if I make them?

nah still toying with ideas.

I was thinking paracord for the becker harness

Email or PM me if you want on the webbing, I might be able to help.

For the harness, I can do that. I carry my Spyderco Perrin that way. And a guy loaned me his Spyderco Aqua Salt, and I set it up with the same thing.

Best,
Marion

I won't be offended at all by your suggestions. I am not a sheathmaker and don't even play one on TV! I don't know the process of Kydex bending well enough to understand what design elements work and what doesn't.

I am just not a neck carrier or a "paracord guy", and tried to think of a sheath design that didn't "require" cords and was composed of the fewest pieces to be simple to make, slim and unobtrusive on the belt.

I, too, like the looks of the original Camillus sheath better. Nice lines. The kabar sheath is just a little too square-ish and klunky for me. One like that in OD would be very sweet indeed.

If you havent used it before I think you will like the Concealex better than Kydex... I like the stealth black personally.. Its got that steel lined leather look. It seems to mold better for me too...

Good point. I don't know the difference in the two plastics.
