Hi

Here is a 'Confederate Bowie' made by Maidan Golan (Israeli knife maker).

Handle - horn
Blade - 50-60 year old Nicholson file
Guard - Mild steel
Blade 12.8"
Total 17.6"
Blade thickness: tapered 0.5 MM - 0.15 MM
HRC - around 59-60
Forged and 100% hand made;

What do you think? how close is it to the genuine 'Confederate Bowie'

Thanks

I don't know about originals but the size of this is perfect, and that guard is fantastic. You're lucky to have such an awesome knife

Well done. Although it is made in a rustic style, it is a fair bit sleaker/better designed and cleaner than many of the original "home made" looking Confederate bowies you see come up for sale/auction.

There is no specific knife thought of as 'THE genuine Confederate Bowie.'

There were/is how ever a mess of D-guards used at the time and Id say the knife in the OP looks very close to some of those Ive seen im museums, collections and pics.

A very nice piece.

(It was de rigeuer for many a Southern soldier to have his pic taken with amongst other items a big knife prior to going to war.
Though many brought big blades to the War, most knives were eventually ditched).
