I got this awhile ago, but haven't gotten around to posting it yet. This is a custom bowie made by David Crawford. It's based on, or rather inspired, by the design of a Gil Hibben custom bowie owned and, I think, designed by Bladeforum user SENGVIN, if I recall correctly. I came across a picture of his knife on the forum, and really liked the general shape, and knew that if I were to get a custom knife made, it'd be something like that. The design me and David arrived at isn't very similar to SENGVIN's, but I did start with that design, and I did ask for, and receive SENGVIN's permission to use the design.
Along with the design, which David polished and tuned up, I also requested it to have a 0.5" thick blade. The knife is 19.5" overall, with a 0.5" thick blade. The steel is 440C. I'm really satisfied with it. I think David did an excellent job!
Before anyone points out that 0.5" inch is way too thick for a knife, or to be sharp, etc. I wanted to say that I'm aware of these things, and that I like how a big, beefy, thick knife design looks -- I mainly collect knives because I like the way they look. I also care about function, but, while sharpness is a key element, being the "most efficient slicer" isn't that important to me in general.
These are the pictures that David sent me. The only thing that's different, I think, is that the weld has a smoother transition between the guard and the blade.
