For those of you interested, I just today recieved my CQC-6 ordered in Jan/96 and scheduled for delivery in Jan/98. I was invoice number 656. I had phoned Emerson Knives to give them a change of address, and was informed by Mrs. Emerson that my knife was one of the batch they had ready to be shipped. Talk about luck. Although it took an extra 18 months to get it, it was well worth the wait. Smoothest action of any folder I own. Great balance and looks. I'm ordering a second one tomorrow. One mystery though. The knife came with a bag of rocks that look like arrowheads. Driving me crazy. What are they? I'm calling Emerson tomorrow to find out. For anyone that has a custom on order, be patient, it shall arrive.

That's really awesome, I'm glad you got your knife! What does it look like (handle, blade finish, bolster)?

Congratulations on the knife, it seems that you feel it was worth the wait. I am curious too... Does anyone know what those "rocks" are???

Rocks? When you find out, I'd like to hear about this. Maybe some type of moisture absorbant?

I have heard that Emerson will be filling all of his orders for the CQC-6 first, since this seems to be his biggest seller. Then he will take care of the rest.

I always find the issue regarding the wait for an Emerson custom to be very, very interesting.

I ordered mine (different model, forgot what it is called) in January of 1998. At that time, I was told the wait would be two years. I called about two months ago and was told the wait would be three years. I called a month ago and was told the wait would be four years. Why the wait is being stretched out soooo much does not make any sense to me and I hope Mr. or Mrs. Emerson addresses this issue on this forum. If the wait is going to be so long, I feel that Mr. Emerson should not collect deposits. I'm sure that when I get my knife, it will be real nice but I feel like charging Mr. Emerson interest on the $50 deposit that I gave him. What I am really wondering is if I will ever get the knife and if so, will the original price be honored.

I wonder is Eric Bland got his knife, invoice number 579, a CQC6. It had a bunch of custom features though.

Emerson did post something a while back in the custom knife forum. It stated that because he took two years to set up the production side, he was unable to work very much on custom knives. Now he hopes to get the handmade side rolling again. Deposits are always refundable.

Fenris, the knife has a 1/2 serrated satin blade, with the flat part slightly poslished, giving the blade a two-tone look. The bolsters, screws, and liners are bead blasted a bronze color, the micarta slabs are almost an olive green, textured, and the pocket clip is a satin steel finish, as are it's screws. Don G, there is no doubt that the price you bought the knife for will be the price you will pay. You can look at it this way, you may have a 3 1/2 year wait, but how many other customs are there that you can immediately turn around and sell for almost double what you paid? By the way, the rocks were to add weight to the package. I don't get it, but that's what Emerson Knives told me today. Maybe I could auction them off as rare Emerson Knives pet rocks. Any takers?

Emerson is sending out rocks to increase their freight charges???? What is the sense in that?

Of course eb64 didn't get his knife. So what if his invoice is 579 and was ordered years before others who have received theirs. After all, I specified a few standard options. A black blade has got to be worth a few years or so. Right? Bitterness? Of course. It's been since August '95 that the $25. was sent and the order placed. Who wouldn't be bitter with the show raffles and all. And now he's delivering the same model as my order with a much later invoice. I guess I just don't get it.

Dear Eric,

It looks like the knife that was delivered to Pigsticker had custom features. It's clearly different than my stock CQC-6.

I wonder why yours would not be made.

The only custom feature on my knife is the partially serrated blade. Although the green/bronze finish on the bolsters, liners, and screws differ than what I've seen in pictures, I did not order it this way. The finish could be the new standard.
