Howdy,
today was a very good day because my custom Andrew Demko AD-10 was delivered! I ordered this knife at the beginning of July 2010, so the wait has been almost 10 months. However, Andrew correctly predicted the wait time, so this didn't come as a surprise. From what I understand, the wait now is much longer and some people have even mentioned that Andrew has stopped accepting orders all together.

Anyway, I wanted to show off a few pictures of my knife. I decided to go with a very basic version of Andrew's knife. I have owned a Cold Steel AK-47 folder for some time and I really like that knife. So I wanted something similar in size and weight.

Here's what I ordered:
- this is the smaller of Andrew's two sizes, I think it has a 3.5" cutting edge.

- I chose a linerless G-10 handle much like the standard Cold Steel knives. I don't think I will ever need the strength that titanium liners add to the knife. This knife is so burly already without liners, I can never see myself using it to its full capacity!

- the blade is made from CPM154. Thickness is 0.200", which makes for a very strong blade that still slices well due to Andrew's hollow grind. I didn't specify a bladegrind, so Andrew just chose to grind a nice swedge on it. This grind leaves plenty of meat behind the tip. The only negative thing about the knife that I can mention is that the swedge is ground a little unevenly between the two sides, that's all. Any marks you see on the blade are not scratches or imperfections, but rather fingerprints from my greasy mitts handling the blade all day! :D

- the edge on this knife is also fantastic. It is not sharpened on a belt, Andrew must use an Edge Pro or some other sharpener to do the final sharpening, it's nicely polished.

- of course this knife comes with the Tri-Ad lock. The lock is very smooth and has none of the stickiness you sometimes encounter in the production Cold Steel models. Lockup is tight with a loud clack, no bladeplay in any direction.

- in one of the pictures below you can see the very stylish bead blasted pivot. Not only does this pivot look very good, it is also brutally thick! There is a lot of material there and the actual post going through the blade has crazy wall thickness. The blade hole is very cleanly cut and has a precision fit around the pivot pin, again very smooth. Finally, Andrew uses an extremely fine-pitch thread on his pivot screw, this makes fine adjustments possible!

- the price for this custom knife is more than reasonable. In this configuration, it still costs less than a basic Strider SMF.

All in all, this knife is totally awesome! I'm glad that I made it onto the order list early! To everybody who is waiting for one of these knives, it's worth it!!!

Now some pictures! I added my AK-47 so people could have a size reference.

Yes, that's a point I forgot to mention: the weight difference between this knife and a standard Cold Steel AK-47 is hardly noticeable. This knife is very light and ounce for ounce probable one of the toughest folders out there!

Yes, Andrews lock on the customs is slightly different than the CS production blades and they are VERY smooth.

Welcome to the club!

Glad to see you are one of the guys who got what may very well be the Strongest folding knife MADE! I got mine about 3 weeks ago and Andrew is AWESOME! Be glad you were like me and got your order in when you did or you may not have seen one for over a year or maybe not at all! CONGRADS! Kevin :thumbup::thumbup:

Wow, this knife is insanely sharp! Andrew does a great job of sharpening his blades! Ankerson, any idea if he uses an Edge Pro?

Congrats.... its nice to see one without liners for a change. I really like the new pivot stamp.

At first I also wanted my knife with 0.050" titanium liners but I'm glad I changed my mind. This knife is not much thicker than a regular production American Lawman and the weight difference between the two is hardly noticeable.
This is how Andrew explained it to me:
- on the regular Cold Steel models, the blade will actually break before the linerless G-10 handles so adding liners has no benefits.
- on his custom models, the blade is thicker and the locking mechanism is stronger, so in heavy weight testing, the handle would give before the blade. Here liners would add strength to the handles.
However, even the linerless version withstands weight testing to several hundred lbs., so I'm not concerned about the strength of the knife. For me it was primarily a function of light weight and carry comfort.

ya that's exactly correct, I tested hand made AK-47's linerless and the g-10 failed at about 400lbs 4 inches from the pivot.

I definitely think this knife is worth the wait, no doubt.I can't wait to have mine in hand. Congrats on a great handmade knife.

Congrats on the Demko. I'm sure you will love your's as much as I love mine. Andrew makes a killer folder.
