Custom Emerson Viper 5

I have a custom Emerson Viper 5 that I purchased in 1995. I know it to be authentic, but it is unlike any other I have seen in that it is assembled with allen screw fasteners. Someone told me that it was a pre-factory model. It has a chisel ground blade, dark grey/black Micarta scales, & Emerson SpecWar logo with no date of build.

Is anyone familiar with this piece? Such as year of manufacture, relative rarity, possible value, etc? Any info would be greatly appreciated.
