Hello everyone,
I'm pretty new to knives, but I love them all the same. I somehow ended up working with Paul Rasp on a pair of custom Ugunas which are on their way to me as I type. I'm making this post to the forum because I had a great experience working with Paul and would like to pass along the word. I will add to this (or make another post after I've gotten some use out of the knives, but this post is about the process of working with Paul).
I'll cut to the chase: It was so easy and pleasant. Paul was incredibly responsive and steadfast in demeanor, and he was open to all of my wants. He steered me in the right direction when my wants were things that could potentially detract from performance, which, in my mind, makes him both accommodating and a responsible knife maker who takes pride in his craft and stands behind his knives. I pushed the envelope on hardness with the 4V, and Paul made it happen. I appreciate a knife maker who has his ways and his processes in place but is also willing to push beyond his norm. This is how progress is made and discoveries happen, right?
I'm probably not as fun to deal with as Paul because I'm particular, I change my mind a lot, and I tend to over-communicate. Paul worked with me patiently through it all. I appreciate you, Paul! If you'll have me, I'll come to you with all of my customs moving forward.
