custom fairbairn/sykes - 1st attempt (pics)

I posted a thread on making a fairbairn sykes style knife a while ago..

my first amateur attempt is finished, far from perfect but sturdy & not too bad to look at..

heres a pic, sorry for the poor quality. the blade & other metal sections are sanded to a rough finish ready for blueing

materials are tool carbon steel blade, carbon steel metal handle sections & stacked leather for the grip..

Thanks, I'll be sure & post a final, hopefully better, pic after bluing

Any advice on bluing with vinegar, lemon juice e.t.c anyone?

I think I'll give white mustard a try to put a patina on it.. tried hot vinegar, but it's steam started to stain the leather in places..
 
I would buff it up to a real nice shine and use cold blueing. The nicer finish you have on the steel prior to blueing determines how nice it looks. Good job!
