Custom Felt Hats... Cowboy, Cavalry, Other.... Who?

Hey y'all

That hat thread got me thinking about hats.

So, I wondering if any of you all know any good custom hat makers?

You know guys that make Cowboy Hats and all the rest?

I think I want a Cavalry hat, of a design from the Civil War era, but I will need it custom made, as I have a huge head and a mop of hair.

Most hats are made by millineries and shipped out as blanks of a few basic styles. Most of these places can make what you want. I have hats from Clearwater Hats, high quality stuff.

Hats are cool. I mentioned that I have to make another for a buddy of mine in the wide brim hat thread. There is another style that I want to try my hand at; it’s the rawhide hat along the lines of the rawhide hat worn by Johnny Depp as Capt. Jack Sparrow. I’ve been given a run down on how it’s made, I’ve just have to build a couple jigs. There is actually a fair demand for those at the pirate festivals here in Florida.

Peter's Brother's hats in Fort Worth. They've made hats for just about every president since FDR. Was in there one time and they were working on a hat for Bill Paxton, the actor.

I've been DYING to find a cheaper hat much like that. It would be perfect for the river trips and the trip I'm going on this weekend. AAARRRR!

You can make one up pretty cheap, just get a hat blank like this, they all look like mountain man hats. Then you just trim the brim and cock it into a tricorn. Embellish it anyway you choose.
