I remember a thread a while back of one of the wss forum members who made custom ferro rods. I believe les stroud actually bought one from him. I remember looking at his work and really liked it bookmarked it, but ended up reformatting my comp and lost my book marks. If anyone knows who make them id appreciate it. Thanks ahead of time.

I am not sure if it is the same guy, but I just bought some from exodus125 and he did a great job. He even modified it to have a some spots that glo in the dark. Very nice work. PM him, he is a very good responder.

Lots of guys make custom firesteels, but I was the one that sold one to Les Stroud. I haven't seen it show up on TV yet though. :p

Yep ive been on the site eye balling a few of the wood handled ones. Whats the round about number of expected fires that you can get from a 3/8 and a 1/2?

That depends on how good you are with a firesteel. :)

3/8" are good for around 7K strikes and 1/2" are 12K strikes.

Storl,

Thinking about retrofitting a misch metal unit into a couple Strike force models I own. Could this be done you think?

Hmm, I don't see why not. I'll have to see if I can scrounge up my sample unit and try to take it apart without destroying the thing.

Maybe it could be drilled out with oil or water for the sparks?

Thinking out loud.
