We have discussed custom knives and we have many pics of Satin SwampRats. Due to the fact that these Satin finishes
can rust quite easily, what plans do you have? I have thought about blueing mine and would like to see what others have
done. Thanks.

Super, I'm the lucky owner of many carbon steel knives (either SRKW or GEC traditionnals along some ESEE knives). I also live in a place where humidity is the norm in summer. Of course I'm far from the ocean, which helps me in saying that:

High carbon knives (including SR101) , if minimally tended for, won't rust.

Use some frog lube or mineral oil. Re-coat once a while. Let a patina develop. That is if they are users. IF they're in a safe: renaissance wax and desiccant.

Of course if you're near salt water, then it's a completely different ball game.

I have quite a few high carbon knives myself and like Turbomammoth I live in a humid area and only take minimal caring for them. The pieces that get used the most I take a dab of Flitz and rub it in real good. It leaves behind a protective coat, its not food safe though. For food knives, mineral oil very very lightly applied and into the sheath. Yea, I keep em in their sheaths because I know the leather, if I happen to have leather that I dont know I usually dont take the chance. Cheap leather may not be processed properly and have tannic acids left in the hide. I also leave knives with brass hardware out of their sheaths, the brass always produces that green gunk in the humid months no matter what I do. Once that stuff gets in the sheath its impossible to get out.

I live on a peninsula so I'm 3/4 surrounded by saltwater. Plus I work on saltwater fish tanks for a living. Satin SR101 doesn't like me. One of my favorite knives is my M9LE but I'm constantly battling rust. I blued it a while ago but rust still shows up. At least it's easier to remove from the blued blade. I'll probably end up sending in the M9 for coating.

No issues with rust here in Coastal Oregon on Infi or 1095, getting some SR101 in 2-12 weeks (ordered a few weeks ago). I do keep an oiled rag (olive oil) handy in a zip-loc though. I give them a good wipe down before sheathing them. Green Alder is hell on non-stainless.

If you want food safe oil on a blade, use mineral oil. Olive oil will go rancid.

I live in La so humidity is a major problem. I have seen rust spots already on mine however, removed immediately so no damage was done.
I saw a blued chopper posted once on the forum but can't recall who did it. I remember it looked very nice from what I recall.

Might give Ren Wax a try, a friend of mine down in Corpus (salt air and all) uses it on everything from knife blades to guns. So far he is very pleased. Just have to be meticulous to get it in next to the handles.

That is if your wanting the bare steel look over coating.

Might have been my 711, Super. I'll see if I can drag up a picture in a bit.

oooh! Pretty 711!

Never thought I'd say that about a convenience store. :p

Lol. I don't think I've ever seen 'pretty' and '711' in the same sentence before.

True that! I've walked into more than one that I simply turned back around and walked out. :p No WAY I'm eatin' THAT hotdog!

Thank's for the pics guys, those are slick.
Hardknock's you going to blue your custom Ratail's or leave them ?

No I ordered both of the rodent trails coated (CG). I have had some rust problems up here with the naked sr101. Most of that is my fault, but when I'm hours-in on taking apart big critters in bad conditions, my back and my mind just aren't in for watching out for the rust.
