Custom firesteel holder

I couldn't find any threads on this topic, so if one already exists, please send the link.

I'm trying to make a custom firesteel holder on my cheesy plastic mora sheath. I got the idea watching a Ray Mears episode

If you have any advice or photos, I'd love to check them out. Getting it jerry rigged on the plastic mora sheath might be a challenge

Dending on what size firesteel you have, a section from a pen could work, just attach it to your sheath via melted plastic, or tape.

You've got the answer for everything. I told somebody the other day that if it had an edge you could make a sheath for it. Now, I've got to include blunt instruments in that statement, too?

One thing y'all might consider is using an elastic pony-tail holder to secure the firesteel in the loop. Comes out easily but you've got to really work at it or be really unlucky to make it fall out by accident.

Why not get a firesteel holder and rid of the Cheesy plastic piece of crap that came with your Mora all in one shot... ?

i like the sheath with the green handled knife and the army fire starter but what is that skinny steel thing with the holes in it and who did you get the little accessories from thank you for your help

The little thing is a bird and trout knife that came with that blade. The customer wanted the option to carry it all, or adjust depending on what he was doing.

I sell the accessories.
 
Ok, so this is what I came up with

Pretty lame. But someday I want to pony up for a fixed griptilian with one of Eric's custom sheaths. That would rule.

One suggestion, I'd wrap duct tape around that sucker instead the rubber band. Don't wanna lose your means of fire in the bush! Tape just the top part, then you could strike it without taking it off of the sheath.

That, and/or some ranger bands, I think I saw a few sheaths Hikeeba had, that he used ranger bands on to attahe things.

Ranger Bands: Bike inner tube, cut into ~3" lengths. left as a tube, and slide over things to hold them in place. :thumbup:
