Hello,

I have been trying to indentify a custom fixed blade that I aquired in 1996. I will try to get pictures this weekend. For now I thought someone might be able to identify it from a description.

It has round brass butt(1/4" thick), with filework. What appears to be a deer antler for the handle, then a brass hilt, like a narrow pointy rounded diamond shape with file work along both edges around the entire hilt. A mirror blade, in a recurve bowie (sp) shape. There is file work along the spine of the blade. It has what appears to be a Rattle snake coiled up ready to strike, with the word Custom Knives stamped into the blade. I am not sure what the blade steel is. I purchased it for $250 upon entering Arizona from the east in 1996.

Like I said, I will try to get pictures of it, but if anyone can identify it from that, please let me know.

Thanks in advance,
Dubb

Never mind, I did a search by the sheath.

<3 Google

"I happen to know exactly who made that knife: a maker by the name of Bob Schopp in Montana. The sheaths were made by Jay Dean of Bodean Hide Works in Helena. Many of the knives were sold by Moreys Gifts, also in Helena. Sadly, Mr. Schopp committed suicide in 2001. Last I heard, Mr. Dean wasn't making sheaths, but he may be back in business by now."

Thanks for the info guys. I found this over a another forum with the name you gave me.
"These knives are made about 15 miles from me by Bob and Christie Schopp. (hence BCS) The mark is actually a rattlesnake if you look close. He used to have several employees and make all kinds of knifes liteally by the ton! He just works by himself now and mostly sells at the Sturgis Biker rally. I still heat treat stainless for him occasionally, but he mostly works with 1095. Bob is a Vietnam Combat Vet and his wife is a tatoo artist and they are a nice couple." Rob Simonich

Well that is what I have found out from this forum and one other. Reguardless I am the proud new owner of this knife and find myself wondering what it is worth.
