I am wanting to get a fixed blade I designed(still playing with the design though) made sometime here in the next couple months or so, probably whenever I have time to get a job, so it might not be till summer. Anyways, what would the best steel be to get it made in? It is 7.5" long, .25" thick, with a bit of a recurve in it. I imagine I will get it double edged. It is meant to be a user, take it out with my scout troop/venture crew and on personal camping excursions, yardwork, etc. I think I'd like to keep the back edge for chopping, and the main edge for cutting.

Take a look at Matt Lameys work, www.lameyknives.com , he would make an excelent choice.

I've recieved a couple good leads, and I sent Matt an email, awaiting a response. The current design is a 6.5" blade, 12" OAL, .25" stock, and I'm thinking CPM 3V. I will probably do some further work on the handle, and then finalize the design when I find a maker and some cash.

Great looking design.
CPM 3V is a very good steel but I think I like D2 better. If you want a better stain resistance try D2 modified. This steel really holds an edge well, and sharpens easily.
