You can buy the knife directly from Benchmade and have them laser that onto your blade. The scales are obviously not original, get Keyman to work some up for you.

I can't seem to find any options on the benchmade web site for a custom grind.... also atony I checked out the Canadian site with no luck.....

Baja, Benchmade doesn't offer options for custom grinds. Any reworking of their blades are done by custom guys like Tom Krein and others. There are some examples floating around of M2 Grips that come to mind, where an already sharp blade was turned into something REALLY sharp. Good luck in your search.

The question is why would anybody want that written on the blade

It would look so much nicer without.

Any Griptilian in S30V will be flat ground. Go to Benchmade's custom build a Griptilian page, or the site I told you about if it has S30 steel it will be flat ground.

Start here:

Benchmade does not, and will not custom grind a knife for you. The sheepsfoot blade looks like it has a hollow grind to start with. As far as the text "custom flat grind" that can be laser engraved by just about anyone with the machine.

so if I order a s30v 555 from the benchmade site it will have a flat grind, and not the hollow grind?.....

No, it will have a hollow grind. But ordering from benchmade is the only place you would ever likely have that exact shape in S30V steel. I suppose you could send the knife off to someone to have it ground. But then again depending on how deep the holow grind goes, making a true flat grind would be a challenge as you really can't add material. Maybe you can call and talk to Benchmade and ask.

It will be a flat grind, if you order through the build a Griptilian page and select S30V. I have done it several times, there is no grind option only profiles so if you get a 555 with the upgraded steel it will be flat ground.

The site I told you about still has a lot of 555's with flat grinds left, and will be a little bit cheaper.

thanks for the help guys.... but I'm getting some conflicting info.....I got rev telling me no and atony saying yes....

both sheepsfoot blade sizes from the customize your griptilian are flatground
there are some pics of it in the picture threads

What we're saying is Benchmade won't do custom grinds. But if you go to the Custom program you can order a Grip with a flat grind, or take advantage of whatever info Atony sent you. As an alternative, take a look at the Ritter Grips. Both large and small models have a high flat ground S30V blade and are amazing slicers. So you have options, the choosing can take more time than anything it seems. Happy research!

I have a Ritter, I just really want a 555 with a flat grind. I don't want to custom order one from bench made and pay $150 for a 555 with a hollow grind

If you go to W&W and find one you like and it says S30V it will be a flat grind. They also have a coupon code you can use and save a bit more.

I think people are just disagreeing whether the stock 555 is flat or hollow grind. I think... the old ones were flat ground, and at some point they switched to a hollow grind. Which is likely the source of the confusion. Some people have flat 555, some people have hollow. But if you look up the 555 on benchmade site, you see it is discontinued and is now the 555HG... so they're definitely hollow ground. I guess when you order through the custom grip thing you don't get a 555hg you just get a 555?

Concerning that picture... I think it's a regrind. You can see the bottom half is stonewashed the top is not. He had it ground, taped off the top half and stonewashed it to remove the grind lines, then had it laser marked.

That's not a regrind.
The finish was consistent over the entire blade.
The photo is tricking you.
See the model number below the grind line this pic?

Ah, didn't have a picture from that side. I should have put it together with the date stamp that you're the one that took that picture.
