Hi guys i am hoping someone can help me identify this problem with a folder when the blade is folded in the frame i can pull the blade a quarter inch or more out and it does not snap back in the handle it just stays open.

No one will be able to help you if they don't know what kind of knife you're talking about.

What kind of lock, and what kind of detent does it have?

The only blades I have that "snap back" into the handle like your describing are back locks. If its not a backlock or friction folder, it shouldnt snap back into the handle like your expecting.

Correct me if im wrong anyone :)

It sounds like your detent isn't seating properly. This could be the detent ball, the detent hole, or a mix of both.
This is a liner lock/framelock correct?

Does the tip stick out?
Kinda like this...

My guess is you have a traditional folder and the backspring for that blade is bent, broken or worn to the point of no longer fully closing the blade.

Everything else with the action is fine it locks up good and tight. And everything its just the issue of snapping back closed when it gets to that point it looses its kick

Compare it to the buck 112 which has alot of snap but this custom folder does not even come close i cant figure it out. Guys

I appologize for not being more specific it is a lockback newly made not much time on it at all

As your title says that it is a custom and it is newly made, I would speak with the maker about it and see what they say. Especially if you got it from them direct.

We need pictures! We love pictures! :D

I would love to post a pic guys but i am pretty sure i will drive myself half crazy trying to get the pic from my phone on to here lol

Whomever made it needs to have it returned for repair. Simple as that. No need for pictures, just find the maker (since we can't figure it out and you haven't said who made it) and return it.

I would speak with the maker before sending it back, it could be something as simple as an over tightened pivot screw, or maybe the knife just needs to be used a bit to smooth the pivot out.

If you have a smart phone, posting pictures is very easy to do.

All you need is a free hosting site. I use Photobucket, which has a app for smart phones. I would imagine others like Imgur have similar apps as well.

Take a photo and then share it/upload via the app. When it is uploaded, copy the IMG link provided and then paste it into your reply.

If your phone is a primitive device with only a camera, calculator, phone and Snake on it, well, not much you can do.;)
