Your folder may have been made by W.C. Wilber. The timeframe for your folder fits. Bill was a maker from Spartanburg, S.C. during the late 70's. The purchase of one of his hunting knives was what inspired me to get into knifemaking in 1977. He did outstanding work, usually focused on flat ground blades with hand-rubbed or machine satin finishes and did a lot of different sculpturing/contouring styles on his fixed blade handles.
His early pieces were marked W.C.W. but he later went to a diamond pantograph logo with his name and location in an oval shield logo design.
Without getting his catalog out, I can't say for sure when he began knifemaking but he left knifemaking in the late 70's because of legal problems due to his business dealings with customers.
I have several of his knives along with his photo album, blade templates plus a number of unfinished blades. His goal for quality and excellence in both design and execution definitely got me started in the right direction. I never worked in his shop but visited him a couple of times my senior year at Clemson in 1977.
Not having seen your knife, I can't be sure but it's probably one of Bill's early folders.
Hope this helped.
Regards,
Jim
