Custom folder recommendation?

I posted earlier asking about John W. Smith knives because there was a beautiful ironwood folder in the for sale section at what seemed like a good price. Long story short, i farted around and debated with myself too long, and it sold before I had a chance to buy it.

The upside is that this gives me a chance to ask the members of this forum with a lot of knowledge (and opinions) this question:

Who do you think makes the finest folding knives for under $600? I am specifically looking for a knife with wood scales, a traditional look and a blade that is about 3.5 inches.

spoken as one who has also yearned for a high end folder like what you describe although not as one who's owned any but one;
I think that Todd Begg's Glimpse is an awesome looking knife.
I find Bob Terzuola's knives to be extremely covetous.
And Lala knives almost always blow me away, I'd love to have one of those carved beauties but more as a possession and less a daily tool.
Opinions only, and largely uninformed so take them as you will:)

Look through the threads in the traditional forum and find a maker you like then get in touch with him

Being such an opened ended question will get you plenty of recommendations.
Basically buy what you like. The best advice I can give is for you to go to a show. Handle as many knives as you can till you find the one you want at the price you want. Looking at pictures online is one thing, but holding the knife in your hand is another.

There are plenty of makers out there that make an outstanding knife but are not as well known as others.

Thanks for the advice. I'm in Denver and will try to make it to the next show here. I hope to meet some or all of you in person then!

IMO. Mike Vagnino has some very clean very tight knives for the money he will make you what you want I do know that he makes a knife like the one you want. So for the money you cannot go wrong with a knife from Mike . Now that I have said that there are a number of fine makers that our on this site that can make a killer knife for $600.

Try Reese Weiland. He can make whatever you want to your specs.

man, I was just surfin around a bit and came across this;
http://www.nordicknives.com/GenGAL1.php?id=7482

And I must say; "Holy crap batman!". I don't remember ever seeing anything in the way of James Schmidt or Michael Walker for sale on any of the dealer's site ever, but there are tons of amazing knives at Nordic right now for what seems to me to be quite amazing value! Looks like someone's collection possibly, so many astounding knives...

Just had to say that. Now I'm gonna go back and take a second look!

I probably sound like a broken record but RJ Martin
