Hey guys, looking for an early Christmas gift for myself and want to step up to a custom. To give you some thoughts, I really like direware and jake hoback knives, but can't find any in my price range. So any recommendations?

I kind of like Todd Begg knives...you can get as fancy with him as you have money to spend...you can Google sales sites if you wish.

I just picked up this one.....it's a Ferrum Forge Model 2....."The Deuce" and so far it has far exceeded any expectations I had of it.......

You can also pick up Custom XMs if you look around.......

In your ballpark......you will have a pretty decent selection of some very different knives......

So is there anything specific you are looking for......flipper, non-flipper......type of grind.......handle shape........blade length........

The more information you can provide about what you'd like......likely the better the suggestions you might receive........

I have a Calavera Cutlery up for sale for 550. It's way under your price range, but it holds its own. If I'm not grail hunting then I wouldn't let it go.

The deuce looks very nice, to offer some more details, I prefer a flipper, also like somewhat overbuilt knives and titanium. So far good recommendations so far.

Well.....then Striders are pretty much out.......Hinderers are in......sort of.......you don't get much more overbuilt than that and continue to have a useful blade to carry......but in the $1300 range you will get a CF scale on the presentation side of a custom......not a full-ti XM........
A couple buddies of mine just got into Stouts and Blounts.......hard to find but in the price range (for some)......and some very nice looking blades......
There is lesser known maker.......Grayman......and they have a couple full-ti models that range in size and are the definition of overbuilt.....and under your price range......
I'll be honest........I'm a Hinderer guy and I really don't think there is a better knife.......fancier......sure......more complicated.......absolutely........but better......not in my opinion......
In the end.....in the price range you are looking at......all of those knives will likely do their job extremely well......cut and stay sharp for a long time.......so it really comes down to personal tastes and any particular attributes you are looking for in a knife......

Thanks falcon, I will get a hinderer, just not yet. I really had my heart set on direware, but just cannot find them in my range. I am definitely liking the looks of ferrum forge knives, just don't know a whole lot about them and can't find much info on them either. So confused.

Go on YouTube and do a search on Ferrum Forge.......there are a pile of videos on different models they offer as well as reviews as to what people think of them......

Wow, there is a lot more on ferrum forge than I thought, and people seem to like them, I'm defiantly considering one of their knives.

I can vouch for Pardue Silversmithing. Some beautiful engraving on some good knives.

If you go to the Ferrum Forge website there should be a link by model as to where you can find them.....if you are a member of the "other forum" as well.....there are actually a couple for sale now.....used but in excellent condition........
You Tube is actually a great resource for research to get a better idea of what the knife is really like.......sometimes a pic just doesn't cut it.......

Best of luck in your search......I hope you are able to find exactly what you want.....:D
