If you were intent on buying just ONE, which would it be and why?

Assuming it's an EDC and will have to tackle any task in its path.......

Sensible price range say $500 to $800, you do plan to use it after all!

Any folder by terzuola. I like his designs. He's refined his work for about 25 years. Top of the line materials, design and craftsmanship. He makes em tactical, gentleman's style, plain and fancy. They are made to be used. If you want to sell one, there is a good market. He's got oodles of experience and a great service reputation.

Only 1 custon knife?!! Wow, let me think about that one. I am going to go with Kevin Wilkins Ghost Dog Pup; framelock, S90V, bolstered w/ green G-11. I choose THIS knife because it really speaks to me. I admire this makers work GREATLY. I love how it looks, and the G-11 is unique. It is a beautiful, beautiful knife. And it is one that I have been wanting for a very long time.

Wow TKC and I think alike.......I would say almost the same thing but I want the Ghost dog a bigger model.I have wanted one for the longest time.

Well.............since I'm getting a Pat Crawford Marauder I would have to say something by Pat Crawford! He has been building knives for a very long time and has some of the most solid designs around. The Kasper is a model that defines the tactical folder. Plus Pat and Wes build their tactical folders just the way I like them built, HEAVY DUTY!

Hey brother!! I think that that is VERY cool that we think alike!! :D :D :D

Paul,

Your looking in a good price range. Lots of choices. Your going to want to look around in the photo, custom, and custom area. When you see something ask about what people think. It should be a knife that appeals to you. Your going to be carrying it right?

Some people carry two knives (I do myself), would you want to do something like that?

So I and others can really help you, I got questions. Blade length, will it really be a EDCed, special materials, are you left handed, lock or are things you just can't stand on a knife? But most of all what do you mean buy "will have to tackle any task in its path" are you talking survival or sub-urban living.

Once I get an idea of what your needs are I and others can help otherwise it's all:jerkit:

Thanks to everyone for your responses so far.

In reply to Sabermans questions:

I'm looking for a real EDC.
Something I'll use as well as look at, hence the price range. I know I wouldn't USE anything dearer for fear of giving my wallet a lack of cash attack!

Any task means those you are likely to come across on a day to day basis, not in a "survival situation" I live in a city.

Also not fussed about it being used for self defense, the afore mentioned city isn't quite THAT bad, besides which I don't relish the thought of going to prison. Anyone attacking me to the extent I'd need to pull a knife would doubtless be carrying something vastly superior in any event!

Blade length 4" or less and plain edged.(Right handed).
Material: resilient to rot, hard wearing and edge holding.
Handle: something grippy and comfortable.
Lock type: strong and reliable, suggest away!

I'd like something just a little bit special that stands out from the common place, It'll be my Xmas treat............

Paul,

Thanks now I feel help you. I'll think about it and try to get you some more suggestions. Off the top of my head:

Lochsa is a kick ass choice.
A Strider or custom Mick/Dwayne would also work. SnG, SmF, or RC

I like the looks of:

Greg Lightfoot, 460 tanto

Brian Tighe, Chee

and

Rick Hinderer, Firetac

Any thoughts on these?

I'm on the list for one... #7777790, but now serving #42

Paul, all three are winners. Of the three I had a Firetac, which was really nice. I don't think you can go wrong with one of Rick's knives. I've also handled the other two, both nice.

You might also might like makers like Mayo, Begg, Terzuola, Elishewitz, or Tom Anderson.

hmm good question, I would say a Strider SMF Nightmare Tanto, or NM recurve if its going to be something im going to use everyday, or maybe a Hinderer Firetac, and if its not going to be used harshly id say a Microtech Marfione custom ;)

You can not go wrong with one of Rick's knives!! I There is one for sale at The Knife Cellar, a Firetac that is.

KnifeCollector, can you direct me to said Firetac, they all seem to be traded or sold!

I very much agree. A large Kasper with mammoth ivory scales and damascus blade and typical Crawford filework! Out of the price range stated by the original poster, but, well worth it.
