A few months back I came up with a design for a gentlemans folder I wanted made. I contacted Elvan Allred who said he could do something with my design. A bit of refining and he and his son came up with something that looked very special. I chose 20 turn Damasteel for the blade steel and mammoth tooth for the interframe inlay. Elvan found a great piece of tooth with some very unique coloring. I believe he and maybe one other maker are doing interframe with mammoth tooth. Anyhow these are a couple pictures he sent me today, the knife will be here tomorrow. He said the blade etching looks darker in hand. I still think the knife looks fantastic! Blade length is right at 3". Handle to blade ratio is very close considering this is a lockback.
First pic is my crummy pencil drawing. Second is the computer version, then of course the finished product. I'll probably have engraved later...

Is the clip sharpened? Looks like it is in your drawings, however not on the actual blade.

I like the blade shape and overall design.

Engraving of the frame would no doubt add in my opinion.

That is one fancy knife. That is some of the coolest mammoth tooth I've ever seen. I've never seen any with that color in it before.

Very nice.

You're right Kevin. Though Elvan specializes in thin folder and I requested this one to be a bit thicker. So no, the front/top is not sharpened. I will get it engraved; I just have to figure out what I want.

SDS, I too was blown away by the color of this ivory.

that is outstanding color for mammoth tooth. I'm sure when engraved it will become above amazing for sure

That IS some interesting mammoth tooth. I've never seen colors like those in mammoth tooth before.

Congratulations on a fine knife.

Nice looking piece!! I'm not sure but I think the tooth may be dyed to achieve that color. I know Charles Turnage and Ron Burke, who I get my tooth from, both dye some of their material to get those wild colors. Either way, it looks great!!

Thanks for the comments and compliments on the knife that Ron designed and I made. I appologize for the poor quality pictures as I was trying to get it out to Rob on time. The Mammoth Tooth Ivory did come from Charles Turnage and he assured me that it was done correctly and would not fade. Light buffing with Renaissance Wax should be all that is necessary to keep it bright and beautiful.
Thanks again Elvan Allred www.allredcustomknives.com
