Is anyone making custom grips for the full size folding Ritter RSK?

I'd like some in black canvas micarta, and after searching here and the benchmade forums have come up empty....

If anyone could point me in the right direction it would be greatly appreciated.

I read here, or on one of the forms, that it is rather difficult to make new grips (handle) for the full-size Griptillians due to the nested liner design. A fair amount of inletting and such is needed.

CHAX (www.chaxknives.com/) might be willing.

Note that micarta may be too flexible for the task.

Micarta is far less flexible and much stronger than FRN.

In addition to Chax, try STR (on this forum). Or maybe Oupa (on another popular knife forum).

has anyone actually done this?

I think my M2 Ritter Grip with some more substantial grips would be just about perfect.

Thank you all for your replies; I've checked and apparently Chax no longer

makes the grips for the griptilians. This is taken directly from his site, "The

work far out weighs the costs and the screws do not hold up well." Shame,

his work looks really nice. Hopefully I'll have better luck with the other leads.

I would have thought there was a bigger market for this type of mod as the

Ritter is just about perfect in my eyes except for this one area.:(

I've sent an email to STR and one to Chax (practically begging for him to do one) but no response from either yet. I'll update when I receive their responses.

"Micarta is far less flexible and much stronger than FRN"

Looking at 30% fiber Noryl and Canvas Micarta (1/2 inch thick), they appear about the same as for flexural thickness (20,000 psi, depending on source).

Strange, as I'm bending two pieces of 3/8 inch (leftovers from projects), and the Micarta is bending more. The Noryl seems to get warmer.

You could be right, but I am going from my own experience and the sort of "general consensus".

FRN knives with no liners flex. A lot. Micarta knives with no liners are much more rigid.

Keep in mind (I will do so as well) that there are different types of Micarta, and that in addition to these different types, Micarta and FRN will vary based on the production quality.

If the RSK was made like the HK34 it would be a simple job by comparison. Looking at the RSK it seems to me it would be far easier to just remake the whole body metal liners and all rather than try to make scales to go over those old ones but it would be high dollar expensive to pull off. By the time you got done with it you would have been able to get a nice custom folder for the same money.
