Custom hand made Damaskus blade jackknife. Any thoughts?

I know it is Damascus- ooops
I just bought this knife. I just got it today and it looks very well made. I think it was money well spent. The seller has a bunch of different types for sale and they look really nice. I don't see how they can sell them so cheap. Am I missing something?

The risk is that if we bomb Pakistan by mistake when we attack Syria, warrantee work will be tough :)

Aiming for Syria and get Pakistan, too?

You'd have to be talking about some big ass bomb. I mean, that bomb would have to ten times the size of that Tsar Bomba that Khrushchev set off.

Ok.

I think it is as ugly as sin.

But that really might not matter for a $22 using knife you throw in the tackle box. How does it cut? If you remember and think about it, I would be interested to hear your thoughts on how well it holds an edge, how easy it is to sharpen and maintain, etc. and generally how well it holds up after using it for a year. Thanks.

I don't really think that you needed to drag my wife into it. But yes, she is a bombshell.

You asked for thoughts on the knife. I gave you mine. I don't like the appearance of it at all. But if it functions well, I said that might not matter. I think that was a fair assessment, and I know it was honest. It certainly was not personal. If you did not want our thoughts, then I think you should not have asked for them.

Your question....how can they sell them so cheaply? Answer..... They buy them even more cheaply They are very inexpensive. probably Pakistani imports. Generally low quality materials overall.

"Your wife must be a bombshell" while this could be taken as a left handed compliment, it also could be taken as a veiled smart ass remark. Either way, it's a written or unwritten rule here. We do not bring family, any family into the conversation in a manner other than you would use to refer to and in front of your mother, or your Pastor. You violate that and you will have crap on your boots quickly.

Please come back often and take advantage of a lot of knife knowledge here.

It's very common for people who recently found an interest in knives to be fooled by these low end Pakistani knives.

I certainly was. I'll have to post a picture of it some time. An 8" fixed blade monstrosity. Over ground to the point that the rat-tail tang was about 3mm closer to the blade than the spine and it would take hours to get a decent edge on it (I quickly realised it wasn't worth the effort).

For the OP - and in all seriousness - enjoy the knife. Experiment with it and as others have suggested I'd love to see a review in a year's time; it could surprise everyone.
 
It's pretty sad when someone has a little bit of knowledge and they lord it over people just getting started. GET A LIFE!
