I have a Benchmade 552 Doug Ritter that I've had for 5 years. It's been a great knife and I like it a lot. However, I took it apart for the first time to get sand and salt water out of the handle, and one of the threaded studs in the handle came out and cracked the plastic.

I emailed Benchmade regarding ordering new handles, or sending it in for repair and they haven't gotten back to me yet. I'm wondering, does anyone make custom griptillian handle replacements? Getting some G10 scales would be a nice change for the knife.

I've heard good things about Phillip Dobson's work. Also, Rezarf of the Benchmade forums might be able to help. And there are the Wilkins handles but they are pricey.

I just got a set of custom micarta handle scales from Luke over at cuscadi.de. These things are seriously cool. He has a really sweet machine shop and does really good precision work. He can do you up with pretty much any material and any type of finish. They are cheaper than Wilkins scales, but still not cheap. However, they are well worth the cash.

On the other hand I'll hook you up with my old sand-colored scales if you want 'em. PM me and we can talk cost (really all I want is some cash to cover shipping).

Thanks guys! Not sure what I'm going to do yet, but I like the looks of Wilkins' work. I think I will replace my screws though.
