Custom handle material suggestions?

I've been thinking about ordering a custom from either Busse or Swamp Rat sometime this year and would like to hear some feedback and suggestions on exotic handle materials that will still stand up to regular carry and use (but not abuse). Does anyone have wood, antler, horn, or bone handles on their INFI or SR-101? What are your experiences with those materials?

Yes, stabilized redwood on the Zilla, and musk ox horn on the TG, I have a BK17 in walnut and rams horn. All have held up to anything I've thrown at them.

Neither of these was done by the Busse shop, but their work is way better than mine, so I would have no reservations about using the hell out of anything that came from there. Well, other than coral or mammoth tooth, both tend to be stone like and brittle ( comparatively)

I am a HUGE fan of box elder burl. She's not a Busse, but she shows how pretty a good grain looks:

Yep, any of those should work just fine, though I prefer G10 for my users.

From the few I have....

Natural material looks amazing and with a bit of care can last forever. Pretty much everything we use is stabalized and holds up well to normal knife use.
With that being said the micarta and g10 materials will hold up better to hard use than any of the natural materials.

As long as it's stabilized, wood will hold up well. Same for bone or antler. Stabilized means a resin was sucked through the material using a vacuum process of one kind or another. Organic materials are heterogenous. Synthetic materials are homogeneous.

My experience is based on being a furniture maker and turner. I've made items out of plastic, bowling ball material, wood, bone, antler and blends of natural and synthetic. Personally, I think organic materials are the most beautiful. Synthetic materials are the toughest.

What about Carbon fiber? I am currently working on modding a NMFBM and was thinking of using CF. I haven't seen any CF Busse's at all.

I have an older hand made knife with handles made of rock maple. nice neutral tone and hard as steel.

I don't know if the wood was stabilized or not.

How about mammoth ivory?

In all fairness I don't own any but it sure makes gorgeous handgun grips.

A satin Busse in mammoth ivory, wow, I bet it would look great...and if mammoths are using it for everyday tasks it can't be too fragile.

Just my .02$

Thanks a lot for all the advice and the badass pictures everyone. Hopefully I'll place an order in the next few months but will definitely post some pics up when whatever I decide on arrives.
