I would like to have a shorter/ flatter/ lighter/ more concealable handle made for my fish Hunter, but stay with the saltwater proof and high visibility theme. Also would like a thin kydex sheath made for it that won't dull the blade, and can be securely carried inside board shorts. Any suggestions for makers that could do this? Thanks in advance.

Check The Custom Shop: Services Offered section. I am pretty sure you will find awesome knifemakers who will help you with your project. My personal recommendation is to contact Robert Erickson, he is an extremely skilled and talented knifemaker, exceptional quality of work and very reasonable prices. I have one of his custom knives and he re-handled my Bradford Guardian. Best of luck with your project and I would love to see the pictures of your customized knife!

I will second Robert Erickson. Phillip Patton is another exceptional knife maker here on BFC. He re-handled a custom kitchen knife by another maker for me and I was very happy with his work.

Adding a pic of the Fish Hunter's tang, and a mock up of the shape of handle I want. Not sure what material would work best. The frn is great material for this knfe, but the thickness and weight of the handle doesn't fit my needs. I will contact knifemakers by PM. Thanks again.

I went ahead and tried making it myself. Not as perfectly shaped and finished as the professionals could do, but it should be serviceable. 3 layers of 1/8" orange g10 held together with Gflex epoxy. After a little more sanding and contouring, I plan to make a kydex sheath that (hopefully) won't dull the edges like the factory sheath. G10 is nasty to work with. I burned up several carbide and diamond dremel burs cutting out the tang outline (yes I did wear a respirator). Then shaped with my cheap 1x 30" belt sander.

Looks good. However I would be concerned about the lack of grip in such a flat smoth handle. And while it might seem bright, once wet, that orange is going to become quite dark. Red is one of the first colors that dissapear in lack of light. Now that you are at it, I would drill a lanyard hole.

Overall looks good, don't take me wrong. I need to bend some kydex for my fish hunter because the stock sheath does not work well for strapping it to the leg calf (spearfishing).

Good points to consider, especially the lanyard. I am not a diver or spearfisherman though. I saw this as sort of a "neck knife" for swim trunks. The idea occurred to me as I stood watching a small woman struggle to drag her large pit bull away from its mission: attacking two preschool age children who were building a sand castle. The children and every other adult in the area seemed oblivious. One of those "what if" scenarios. Of course a firearm (or baseball bat, boar spear etc.) would be 10x better but I won't carry one in the surf or leave it on my towel at a public beach.

You could try to add some more grip creating some sort of stippling with a ball end mill from the Dremmel installed in a drill press. This will work great for the flats, but will need to do the edges of the handle by hand unless you have a drill press vice to hold it vertically.

Let us know how it ends. I am curious to see the kydex sheath.
